Silvana joined GPLUS in 2014 after stepping down as a Member of the European Parliament where she had served two terms, from 2004-2014. From 2009 to 2011 she was Vice-President of the European Parliament, and from 2004 to 2009 she was First Vice-President of the pan-European liberal parliamentary group, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. As EP Vice-President her focus was on relations with the national parliaments of the EU Member States, as well as chairing the High Level Working Group on Gender Equality. She served on the Committees of International Trade and of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.
In 2013 she founded the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP), which is a worldwide network of female politicians. Before her time in politics she set up and ran a public affairs consultancy in Brussels. She was for many years also active as a talk-show host with her own show on two private German TV channels. Having published several books she also is a regular contributor to national and international media.
The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker appointed Silvana as the EU-representative to the executive board of W20, a G20 engagement group. In addition to her work for GPLUS, Silvana advises leading companies and international institutions on policy issues.
Silvana holds numerous honorary positions, including Alumni of the Young Global Leader Network of the World Economic Forum. She speaks German, English and French.
