Carmen joined GPLUS in August 2018. A qualified lawyer from the US, Carmen began her career in Brussels with Insurance Europe, where she liaised frequently with EU policymakers and served on European Commission expert groups. Her efforts led to advocacy successes on disaster-risk financing, environmental liability, cross-border services and insurance contract law.
Before GPLUS, Carmen helped steer the expansion of the Brussels practice for Global Counsel, an advisory firm founded by former EU trade commissioner and UK minister Lord Mandelson. She counseled financial, digital and energy clients on the European political landscape, strategic policy engagement, and the EU-UK Brexit negotiations. She also led on the firm’s Brussels events featuring EU Commissioners and policymakers.
Carmen holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from the University of London, Queen Mary and studied European Law at the University of Leuven. In addition to her native English, she has a good knowledge of Dutch and Spanish and is working to improve her French.
